Daylily Garden

The Daylily Garden boasts more than 100 varieties of heirloom daylilies. A popular low-maintenance perennial, this species comes in thousands of colors, which you can see blooming in mid-summer. Daylilies are loved for being drought- and shade-tolerant, as well as disease- and pest-resistant.

While not actual members of the lily genus (Lilium), their common name comes from the bloom’s resemblance to many Lilium. Hermerocallis, the botanical name for daylilies, comes from the Greek works hemera—meaning ‘day’—and kallos—meaning ‘beauty’—as each individual flower only blooms for one day. Although each bloom comes and goes in a day, the plant continuously puts out new flowers when old ones die off, offering a summer full of flowers cycling through the bloom phases.
