Phacelia campanularia known as California bluebell, or desertbells, is an ornamental annual grown in our area that is native to the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts.
Although small and low-growing, it catches our eye with a striking blue. It grows best in dry, well-draining areas with full sun. This shade of blue, with its golden anthers attracts bees and other pollinators.
We grew it from seed this year and the hard work has given us great results. You can come and visit our desertbells along the fenced border of Weezie’s Garden for Children and be sure to come celebrate it at our Power of Pollinators event on July 13!
