Chair of the Board of Trustees
We have exciting news to report about the leadership of Massachusetts Horticultural Society. We are pleased to inform you that we have appointed Suzanne Maas as Interim Executive Director & President. Suzanne brings tremendous foundation and nonprofit management and governance experience to Mass Hort. We are fortunate to have her in this position while the Board conducts its search for a permanent president and executive director.
Suzanne is a partner with Leadership Transitions, LLC, a firm she founded in 2007 dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations grow and thrive during a period of leadership change. At various times over the years, she has served as executive director, interim executive director, board chair, and consultant to nonprofit organizations.
In 2010, Suzanne served as the Interim Executive Director of the Higgins Armory Museum where she co-created the integration plan with the Worcester Art Museum, and raised over $2 million to help implement the transition plan. Most recently, she served as Interim Executive Director at Tower Hill Botanic Garden. During her tenure at Tower Hill, she completed the Master Plan process and launched the quiet phase of a capital campaign with staff and board, and reduced the draw on the endowment while supporting the growth of the organization and implementing governance changes with the board. Prior to founding Leadership Transitions, Suzanne was the long-term Executive Director of the Boston Globe Foundation.
I believe we have a very qualified leader in Suzanne and she will be instrumental in guiding the organization and working with the Board over the near term. Her experience aligns very well for where Mass Hort is now and where we want to take the organization in the future.
Please join me in welcoming Suzanne and wishing her all the best in the coming months.
